Mr. Stephen Sweeney
Hello, I am, Stephen Sweeney, the new Assistant Principal at Karnes city Junior and Senior High School. My experience includes 21 years as an assistant principal, teacher and an athletic coach. All of those years were spent at Title I schools (over 50% economically disadvantaged).
Before accepting my new position, I was a Special Education teacher at Karnes City Junior High School. I was a 6th/7th grade Social Studies and World History teacher/coach at Stockdale ISD. Prior to that, I was the ISS teacher/Behavior Coordinator at Simms Elementary in Texas City ISD. Before returning to public school, I was teaching GED and Adult Basic Education classes at SER-Jobs in Houston. Before that, I taught ABE-GED courses to offenders at Cleveland Correctional Center.
As an assistant principal at Scurry Rosser ISD (grades 4th-8th), I had many responsibilities. I handled most of the discipline issues. I was the attendance officer responsible for truancy violations, and I also initiated an attendance incentive program thanks to a grant from Walmart. I have been a member of the Site Based Decision Making Committee, Attendance Committee, and Textbook Adoption Committee. I look forward to serving Karnes City ISD, the students, the teachers, and the community.
